2 May 2019:- this race began 15 years ago in collaboration with the Addis Ababa Road Authority and IFH Engineering (formerly known as CRBC) as inauguration of the Ring Road. Since then the races have been held on new roads that have been constructed by IFH Engineering with the aim of making the public aware of the high number of traffic related accidents. This year the race will take place with the slogan “Let’s cross the street using the designated place”.

The start and finish of this year’s relay race will be behind Dembel City Center (area usually called Mulushewa Siga Bet) aside from health runners, professional athletes will also be competing in the relay races in both genders. The price for athlete winners will be Birr 10,000, Birr 6,000 and Birr 4,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

The health runners will be divided into groups in accordance with what type of company they are from (Hotels, Gyms, Governmental Institutions…) which will promote healthy
competition among same type of companies.

The run also aims to celebrate the 100th year of ILO. Ethiopia is one of the first African nations to join the organization and is currently serving as chair for Africa. the ILO will be working with the Great Ethiopian Run and other concerned parties with the message “Decent Work for Brighter Future” to celebrate this day. Since its inception after the first world war, ILO believes that social justice is one of the key pillars and will be working with its partners during the Relay Races to promote its message along with road safety.
