The UN 2019 Women First 5km race to be held on Sunday, he prize money to elite athletes is lifted up to 25,000 birr
The 16th edition of The UN 2019 Women First 5kmannual race will be held with a slogan “I Lead!” that is originated by UN. The event will have an elite field where 200 young female athletes compete, along with the 13,000 registered participants and more than 30 iconic women who will be presented as role model to others.
Yetneberish Nigussie, Wudalat Gedamu, Aida Ashenafi, Betty G., Hamelmal Abate, Jano Band (Hewan & Halelujah), are listed among the iconic women who will take part in the race.
At the press conference held yesterday, the minister of the Ministry of Women, children and Youth Mrs. Yalem Tsegay said, “When we think about running together we shall think of planning, executing, developing and changing together. In collaboration with Great Ethiopian Run we are planning to collect sanitary pads on Sunday from all the participants, to be handed for the needy women.”
UN’s Mr. Aeniyas Chuma has also said “this run will be held at a time when Ethiopia set an example for Africa & the world by appointing female leaders in high level government positions, and we as UN we want to ensure that this representation continues in all structures and at all levels. To do so, everyone needs to have an opportunity to exercise and develop their leadership skills.”
The 35 minute challenge is also in place to participants who finished the race will receive a certificate signed by the Olympic Medalist athlete Meseret Defar in addition to the race medal.

The race course start finish will be at Atlas Hotel.
