“Let’s Invest in Women and Accelerate Progress’’ is the official race message

1st February 2024 – The 21st edition of Women First 5km Race is set to take place on 17th February 2024. With a growing number of participants, this year’s race promises to be the biggest yet, with 16,000 women expected to join in the celebration of Women empowerment.

Officially announcing this year’s race message, Ms. Cecile Mukarubuga, UN Women Ethiopia Representative, who spoke on behalf of Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, also said, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress” is the theme we have chosen for this race this year which focuses on harnessing the potential of women through increased investment in initiatives that promote and ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment. This theme strongly speaks to one of the key challenges in achieving gender equality by 2030 – an alarming lack of financing with a staggering USD 360 billion annual deficit in spending on gender-equality measures.

This should not be seen as an act of charity or a favour to women. It is a must and it benefits everyone.” “Progressfor women benefits us all, but it cannot be achieved without investment,” she added. Officially opening the registration for the race, Individuals interested in participating can register starting from tomorrow 2nd February 2024 with an entry fee of 490 birr ETB. Registration can be done at 10 branches of selected DashenBank, the official payment partner.
