The 2023 IFH Road Race Relay took place on Sunday 17 December 2023.

Here are some highlights from the 2022 race.

Great Ethiopian Run has been staging this annual road relay since 2008. The event was started when sections of the new ring road in Addis Ababa started to be completed and has always promoted messages about road safety.

The first three editions of the event took place on the Ring Road itself but in subsequent years the event took place at different venues in connection with the opening of new roads built by the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA) and CRBC Addis Engineering.

A maximum number of 150 teams represented by a range of organizations will take part in the relay. Each organization will have a team composed of 8 team members and each member will run 1km. In addition up to 50 athletics clubs will take part and each club will have four athletes each athlete running 3km.

Great Ethiopian Run, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been using its flagship event, the Great Ethiopian Run 10km International, to support people in need in our community. Our official “Running for a Cause” fundraising campaign serves as the platform to collect donations. Last year we have raised over 1.6 million birr which made the total fund raised in the last five years to over 7.1 Million birr. This year, we have set a fundraising target of 1.7 Million Birr. Great Ethiopian Run has supported financially and promoted the work of different organizations working with vulnerable children, women and the elderly.

Volunteers play crucial role in staging our races. At the International 10km as many as 500 volunteers work to make sure everyone has the best experience on race day.

We work with different volunteer groups coming from Rotaract Clubs in Addis, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopian Scouts Association and other individuals who would like to contribute to the successful delivery of the race.

If you are a volunteer and want to participate please contact us through Dagim@ethiopianrun.org.

Please include: your contact information, background (area of expertise) & experience as a volunteer.
