The annual fundraising campaign known as “Running For A Cause” which is part of the Great Ethiopian Run International 10km is being launched today at the Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa. The three charities nominated as beneficiaries of this year’s campaign are:
- Vision Parents of Blind Children Charity Organization: Aiming to build a sustainable environment for children who are vision impaired, and currently operating the only blind kindergarten in Addis, called “Vision Blind’s Kindergarten”.
- Addis Hiwot Center of the Blind: Enabling late visually impaired people to emerge from the trauma of being visually impaired through psychosocial counselling and rehabilitative skill training and services.
- Network of Older People Care and Support Organization: Providing care and support to elderly people in economic, social, and moral aspects, and incorporating 16 local NGOs that are working on the improvement of older people’s living standards.
Alongside the launch of the fundraising campaign Great Ethiopian Run is also opening registration for the annual children’s races which take place on the eve of the main 10km race on Saturday 16th November.
The two registration centres used for this competition are the Alem Cinema in Bole and the Great Ethiopian Run office in Lambaret next to Haile Grand. The registration fee is 400 ETB and the race message provided by UNICEF is “For Every Child: Nutrition.”
