A three-year MOU signed between Great Ethiopian Run PLC and Addis Ababa City Administration Athletics Federation.

12 October 2024 : One of the missions of Great Ethiopian Run  is to support our country’s athletics. To enhance this and make it more effective, the Great Ethiopian run  and Addis Ababa City Administration Athletics Federation officially signed an MOU on 12 October 2024.

The President of the Athletics Federation, Ato Melkamu Tegne, and the General Manager of Great Ethiopian Run , Dagmawit Amar, were present among other staff were present to sign the MOU.

Among the activities included in the joint agreement, it is mentioned that the Federation will provide professional support and facilitate athletes to participate in the competition, while Great Ethiopian Run will facilitate competition opportunities for upcoming athletes; provide professional and material assistance to the competitions held by the Federation, to support  the projects of young athletes in which the federation works, as well as working together on the development of the athletic base, are mentioned.


Dagmawit Amare, Manager Director of  Great Ethiopian Run said, “having the help of the federation plays a key role in achieving the goals that the Great Ethiopian Run  wants to bring.”

Addis Ababa City Administration Athletics Federation Ato Melkamu Tegne said, “The Federation wants to help the Great Ethiopian Run with its skills and experience to contribute to the athletics. As this MOU is the first, we will undoubtedly bring better results.”

In general, it is believed that the MOU will help Addis Ababa Athletics Federation and Great Ethiopian Run to be successful.

Great Ethiopian Run International 10km, which will be held on November 18th, will involve more than 500 athletes in the race with free participation every year. Over the past 24 years of the race, several standout athletes have made a significant impact, including Berihu Aregawi, Solomon Barega, Mogesnat Geremew, Melknat Wedu, Tigist Ketema, Yalemzerf Yehuala, Abe Gashaw, Foyten Tesfaye, and Biniyam Meri. These remarkable competitors have left a lasting impression on the sport and are truly memorable figures in its history.
