4 October 2012 - Registration for the 2012 CBE Great Ethiopian Run 10km on Sunday 25th November 2012 closed more than six months ahead of the event. Unlike for the previous editions of the race, for the race's 12th edition the Great Ethiopian Run organising team introduced a new system of registration where participants registered earlier in the year, giving details of their preferred t-shirt size which will then be issued at a new sports expo being staged in the week leading up to the race. The new system also aims to reduce the number of black market t-shirts sales which has become a feature of the event since it became Africa's biggest road race back in 2002.
This year the race date coincides with the 125th anniversary of Addis Ababa and will form part of the series of activities planned by the Addis Ababa City Administration to celebrate the city's anniversary. 36,000 participants are expected to take part in the 10km race. The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has kept its title sponsorship for a second year. CBE is Ethiopia's biggest bank and is seen as the lead player in Ethiopia's emerging banking sector. In 2011/12 fiscal year alone, CBE opened 167 branches, taking its total branch network to 550. The bank plans to open an additional 150 branches in the current fiscal year.

4 October 2012 - Great Ethiopian Run started staging children races six years ago in 2006. Including children races was an important expansion of Great Ethiopian Run’s work making running accessible to children and making its races a family event. It plays its part by creating a plat form for children to emulate their heroes at an early age in the sport Ethiopia is good at.
Looking back the years how the children races was started, the first two years was sponsored by AIMS (Associate of Marathon and Road Races) to promote running in developing countries around the world. The last three years Great Ethiopian Run partnered with Plan International Ethiopia to stage annual children races promoting the “Learn without fear” global campaign. The two organizations have this year renewed their partnership to promote “Because I am a Girl” campaign.
17 August 2012 - At face value, team Ethiopia enjoyed a memorable London 2012 with a total of seven medals, including three gold, to show for its efforts. Its position on the medal table- fifth in the world in the athletics and 25th in all sports- is also noteworthy for a team of just 33 athletes.
But there is much more to this campaign than medals. It was a mixed bag of excellent performances, near misses, botched tactics, injuries and illnesses, and encouraging progress.
