2 October 2014 - Great Ethiopian Run is launching today its official fundraising in connection with the 2014 Great Ethiopian Run International 10km united under “Running for a Cause” banner and its annual children races. UN Ethiopia and Great Ethiopian Run use the excitement of the annual 10km International event to raise more funds each year to benefit local charity organizations. During the 2013 Great Ethiopian Run over 1.3 million birr was raised and handed over to four beneficiaries and this year a fundraising target of 1.4 million birr is set. Ministry of Women , Children and Youth Affair has selected the following four beneficiaries :
Meseret Humanitarian Organization,
Sewasewe Genet Charity & Development Organizations,
Sisters and Brothers charity organization (Gambella) and
Benshangule Women Association.
14 September 2014 - Getaneh Molla & Zewdenesh Ayele triumph at the 2014 Coca-Cola Road Race Series Final. Molla was leading the series along with Berhanu & Mekonnen all having 10 points & took victory today beating his opponents at a time of 21:33.700. Ayele was second on the series having equal 10 points with Wudassie four points behind series leader Awi. Ayele finished today’s race on 2nd position at a time of 24:51.687 winning the overall series and grabbed 50,000 birr.
15 June 2014 - The second race of the 2014 Coca-Cola Road Race Series that took place three days after the start of the 20th FIFA World Cup in Brazil reflected the spirit of football where Coca-Cola is an official sponsor. The Ethiopian National football team that made remarkable achievements going to African Cup of Nations after 30 years & lost the qualifying match to the World Cup against Nigerian Super Eagles was invited to start the race. Gadissa Berhanu won the men's race in 21:24 minutes while Zewdnesh Ayele won the women's race in a time of 24:08 minutes.
19 August 2014 - Mohammed Temam and Adanech Tesfaye won the inaugural Ethiotrail marathon race at the a time of 2:40:52 and 3:23:41 respectively. The Ethiotrail is the first Trail Running race organized in Ethiopia in the area of the Rift Valley lakes (Abijatta -Shalla National Park).
1 June 2014 -2014 CRBC/AACRA Relay marks Great Ethiopian Run’s 100th race. In the elite athletes 3km x 4 Relay competition Assela and ELPA Club athletes won in the women and men relay respectively. Addis Ababa University (AAU) was the overall winner of the mass 1km x 6 relay which saw 150 teams in 7 categories. 100 children supported by Right to Play have taken part in 1.2km race at the end of the relay competitions to mark the 100th race organized by Great Ethiopian Run in the past 13 years. 11th edition of the relay which was started in 2004 when the ring road was inaugurated has been promoting “Road Safety” is one of the first expansions of Great Ethiopian Run races after the successful 10km international. Other annual race started the same year in 2004 was the Confidence women first 5km which also marked it’s 11th edition last March.
