March 23, 2017 Starting from April 23, 2017 the Great Ethiopian Run hosts three races on the consecutive three Sundays. These three races are named as the Triple Crown.
2017 CCECC Hawassa Half Marathon which will be hosted on April 23 is the first among the three races. Hawassa’s run will include a 21 km (half marathon) run, a 7 km run as an alternative and a children race as well. A total of 4,000 participants are expected to take part on this event. This race will be a good platform to show that Hawassa is a perfect destination for tourism.
18 March 2017 - Great Ethiopian Run in addition to its flagship 10k International race organizes a number of annual races in Addis Ababa and different regions in Ethiopia. The race in Hawassa has been the only annual regional event it organizes outside of Addis Ababa.
Hawassa Half Marathon will take place on 23 April 2017 and in addition to the half-marathon it will also have 7km and children races. It’s the 6th edition of the event where it took place from 2010-2014 for five years and was interrupted for two years. Today the Great Ethiopian Run has signed a three year Memorandum of Understanding with the Hawassa City Administration in the presence of Mayor of Hawassa HE Tewodrow Gebiba who commented “we want to promote our city and support tourism and we are confident our partnership with Great Ethiopian Run will help us to do that”
13 February 2017 – the 34th Janmeda International Cross Country Championships was staged successful at the weekend. Great Ethiopian Run was asked to help stage the event and did help event management of the event mainly on three areas: EBC LIVE coverage team assistance, race operation including setup and prize ceremony.
The event serves as the national team selection for next month's world cross-country championships in Kampala, with races staged across both junior and senior age groups. This year a mixed relay was also added to the program. The Ethiopian Athletics Federation recognized the involvement of the GER team by presenting a Certificate of Recognition for their support. 12 March 2017 The 14th edition of the annual womens-only 5km run took place earlier today. With sponsorship from the UN and with the slogan “Because She Can..” the event saw a record number of 8,000 women finishers, with around 11,000 having earlier registered for the run.
The UN gave support for the event, believing that the run would strengthen society-wide efforts to promote gender eequality, the 5th of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
Athlete Degitu Azmeraw won the race in a time of 15:53.8. Abeba Tefera and Mihater Tefera were second and third place finishers. Amakelech Lulu is the winner of the icon women completion finishing the race in time of 30:54.1.Biruktawit Getahun (Bety G) and Fitsum Tesgaye where second and third place finishers where a total of 30 icon women take part. February 2, 2017- Great Ethiopian Run launched the 14th edition of its annual WOMEN FIRST 5km at Capital Hotel and Spa. The title sponsor of this year’s run is the UN Ethiopia. The UN Ethiopia is using the 2017 women first Run to promote the theme “Because She Can” to celebrate women’s achievement, courage and strength.
