South African distance running legend Hendrick Ramaala will be one of the guests of the 2016 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run, organisers announced earlier today.
Starting in 1995 Ramaala’s career at the top of world distance running lasted for more than 15 years and included two silver medals at the World Half Marathon Championships in 1998 and 1999. He also ran under 28 minutes for 10,000m on 11 occasions which also included his South African National Record of 27:29, a mark which still stands today.
A regular member of the South African athletics team, Ramaala competed at three Olympic Games. He also holds the best time for a South African runner for the 20km and the half-marathon and the second fastest behind Gert Thys for the marathon with a best time of 2 hours 6 minutes and 55 seconds set in 2006.

October 6 2016 Great Ethiopian Run today launches its official fundraising campaign “Running for a cause” in connection with the 16th edition of the 2016 Total Great Ethiopian Run planned for Sunday 20 November and registration for 10th edition of the 2016 Plan International Ethiopia children races planned for 19 November.
The official fundraising campaign “Running for a cause” the last 3 years alone has risen over $200,000 and has set higher fund raising target of 1.5 million birr this year. August 27th, 2016 – Bishoftu, Ethiopia – Today, The Coca-Cola Company proudly announces the opening ceremony for the final level of the 2016 Copa Coca-Cola National Tournament taking place in Bishoftu. The competition reaching a total of 27,000 teenagers, from 11 regions in Ethiopia, has competitively selected 18 of the best players (from both boys and girls) with a grand total of 396 players participating in this national tournament. High officials in cooperation from Coca-Cola and the Ethiopian Football Federation will be in attendance. This year’s Ethiopian Women’s premier league top scorer and the Ethiopian National U-20 team captain, Loza Abera (striker), will be the special VIP guest.
