On Thursday 2 June TOTAL Ethiopia is being announced as the new title sponsor for the Great Ethiopian Run International 10km.
The three-year agreement with TOTAL sees the multinational petroleum company return to the headline sponsorship role, having been the race’s title sponsor back in 2002 and 2003.
“We are delighted to welcome back TOTAL as title sponsor,” commented Great Ethiopian Run Race Director, Ermias Ayele. “Our profile has grown hugely since the early years of our partnership with TOTAL. We are continuing to develop our event, and we are all excited at the potential of this new relationship.”
One sign of the growth of the event will be in a new wave start which is being introduced to the race in 2016 to cater for even higher numbers.
6 February 2016 - Great Ethiopian Run is celebrating this year it’s 13th edition of the annual Women First 5km, women only run which was started to mark international women’s day twelve years ago and highlight contribution of Ethiopian women in the society. Ethiopia is celebrating the International Women Day for the 40thtime this year, showcasing the country’s long term commitment at the highest level to advancing the women’s agenda.
“Running for a Cause”, the official fundraising campaign in connection with the 2015 Great Ethiopian Run 10km international raised 1.4 million birr for the four selected beneficiaries. The mass running event, which is the biggest by participants’ number in Africa, took place on 22 November 2015 in Addis Ababa with a total number of 40,000 participants.
7 February 2016 – Somali Regional state capital Jigjiga hosts the 1st SDG Race this morning. Alebachew Abrar wins the men’s race in a time 14:55 while Zenash Tigistu wins the women’s race in a time of 18:00.
