13 February 2017 – the 34th Janmeda International Cross Country Championships was staged successful at the weekend. Great Ethiopian Run was asked to help stage the event and did help event management of the event mainly on three areas: EBC LIVE coverage team assistance, race operation including setup and prize ceremony.
The event serves as the national team selection for next month's world cross-country championships in Kampala, with races staged across both junior and senior age groups. This year a mixed relay was also added to the program. The Ethiopian Athletics Federation recognized the involvement of the GER team by presenting a Certificate of Recognition for their support. February 2, 2017- Great Ethiopian Run launched the 14th edition of its annual WOMEN FIRST 5km at Capital Hotel and Spa. The title sponsor of this year’s run is the UN Ethiopia. The UN Ethiopia is using the 2017 women first Run to promote the theme “Because She Can” to celebrate women’s achievement, courage and strength.

January 20, 2017 The first round of EMA race was conducted last year only engaging the medical professionals in Addis. The second round EMA race will be conducted on April 30, 2017. This time the race will be open to all interested and it covers 5kms. This year’s EMA Moto is RUN THE TALK, family planning for prosperity.

December 8, 2016 – Great Ethiopian Run in relation to its annual 10 km run, has been working on a fundraising campaign under the name ‘Running for a Cause’ to help those who are less fortune. On this year’s event, Great Ethiopian Run Planned and achieved raising 1.5 million birr. The FDRE Ministry of Women & Children Youth Affairs selected four beneficiaries for this year. The donation ceremony was held at one of the charity organizations called the Sebeta Getesemani Nunnery. The other three organizations benefiting from this year’s campaign are: Muday Association, Gambella Region Women Association & Ra’ey Letewlid.
Sunday 20 November 2016 - Abe Gashahun and Foiteyn Tesfaye, both relatively new and unknown young athletes, were the surprise winners of the 16th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run 10km international road race earlier today.
Abe Gashahun won in a tight sprint finish ahead of Kenyan athlete Jorum Lumbasi, who became the first Kenyan male to place in the top three since Nathan Naibei finished 2nd here in 2005. Four athletes had entered the final home straight locked together and Gashahun only clinched victory in the final few metres of the race.
Gashahun who is coached by Haji Ajilo comes from Debre Birhan, 120km northeast of Addis Ababa, and had travelled to the capital yesterday for this race.
“I have competed abroad only twice until now, both times in France. I hope that my win today will give me more opportunities to compete in international races abroad, “he said after the race.
The women’s winner Foiteyn Tesfaye who was also appearing in the race for the first time surprised better known names in the race. Tesfaye runs for the Messebo club based in the northern province of Tigray and is still relatively new to the racing scene in Addis Ababa.
