27 October – Great Ethiopian Run has announced that the cash prizes for the men’s and women’s winner of the elite athletes race has been doubled to 100,000 for this year’s races. In total the elite athlete prize purse will be around half a million birr, the biggest ever for a race in Ethiopia.
The increase in prize money is in line with one of the objectives of the Great Ethiopian Run 10km to create a platform for new athletes to emerge and have opportunity to compete on the international stage.
“We have come a long way in 16 years, and giving better rewards to the athletes has always figured highly in our plans,” commented Ermias Ayele, GM of Great Ethiopian Run. “We started with winners’ prizes of at 10,000. This year the winners will receive ten times that number.”

June 15 – The 2017 Total Great Ethiopian Run 10km closes registration today. A total of 44,000 participants are going to take part on the 17th edition which the total number increase by 2000 participants from last year’s run.
Beginning from next week the 12th round Running for a Cause campaign which mainly uses the Great Ethiopian Run to raise funds for nonprofit organizations will start. For those who are supporting this cause there are a few t-shirts allocated with a small difference in payment from the original t-shirt prize.
August 26, 2017 – Jigjiga, Ethiopia - the 3rd edition of the Copa Coca Cola National Tournament is officially open at the newly built stadium of Jigjiga today. A total of 22 teams, 11 boys and 11 girls, selected from 9 regions and 2 city administrations will participate on the one week tournament that will end on the 3rd of September.
