Week 6

Here at Great Ethiopian Run, we believe that running a 10k  should not stop you from having a good party.

From the moment the DJ puts on the first track as crowds gather in Meskel Square, the party begins.  Our course has 8 live bands providing all the beats you need to keep you running.

We recognise the effort you have put in to prepare for the race; some of you go the extra mile and raise money for our charity campaign.

Some roads approaching Meskel Square are closed from early on on race-day morning.  Plan your route to the race start and arrive in plenty time, to start with your wave of runners. Wear your race t-shirts and race numbers with pride, and don’t forget that your finishers medal gives you discounted access to our post-race concert at Ghion Unity Park.

It is only one week until the Great Ethiopian Run’s International 10k.  Are you ready to run?

We hope you are looking forward to it as much we are. And how can you fail to be excited, when Africa’s biggest mass participation road race is just around the corner?

This Sunday 44 000 runners will take to the streets of Addis Ababa.  From the moment the DJ puts on the first track, while crowds gather in Meskel Square, the party begins.  Here at Great Ethiopian Run, we believe that 10k of running shouldn’t stop a good party.  Our course has 8 live bands providing all the beats you need to keep you running.

At kilometer 5 we have our ARKI water station and if that isn’t refreshment enough, enjoy our shower station, now a regular feature of our race, at kilometer 6.

The last 3k of our race heads towards Meskel Square, the finish line and your medal.

We recognize the effort you have put in to train for our event, and some of you have gone the extra mile and are raising money for our charity campaign.  Make sure you get the most out of race day; try to rest well the night before, eat lightly and drink plenty of water.

Some roads approaching Meskel Square will be closed from early Sunday morning.  Plan your route to the race start and arrive in plenty time, to start with your wave of runners. Wear your race t-shirts and race numbers with pride, and don’t forget that your finishers medal will gain you discounted access to our post-race concert at Ghion Unity Park.

So, whether this is your first Great Ethiopian Run or your 17th we feel sure it will be an unforgettable experience. See you on Sunday.

HAILE – Respected advice

Final week

We’re getting close to the race. I’m excited – I hope you are too!

This week my advice is: don’t do too much!

It’s important that you start the race feeling fresh and ready to make a big effort.

So: keep training, but gentle training is now better than hard training!

Think about the race. Yes, lots of participants! – and they will help you get around.

Also, you need energy and determination.

Check you know the course. It’s hard at the finish. So don’t start too fast!
