April 23 2017 Seada Kedir and Bira Seboka win the 2017 CCECC Hawassa Half Marathon in a time of 1.16.56  and 1.04.10 respectively. The 6th edition of the event that modified the previous three laps route to two bigger laps after two years where the majority of the dirt and coble stone roads are all now made into asphalt.

In the mass half marathon Yibeltal Biyalfew who was also winner in 2013 win again today finishing the race in a time of 1:30.32 while Jessica Anagnostaras finish ahead of the women finishing the half-marathon in a time of 1.35.23.

In 7 km race local athletes win the race and results will posted soon. A total of around two thousand participants took part in 7km mass race. The race also included 1.4 km children race where over 450 children take part.0Z9C8386

H.E Tewedros Gebiba, Mayor of Hawassa stated “Hawassa city administration is committed to promote the sport tourism of the city and events like this are great opportunity for local business to benefit. We will work with Great Ethiopian Run to maximize the tourist flow”



In all the four races a total over 3,000 participant’s take part where 150 participants came from the capital Addis Ababa and 25 participants from abroad majority of them of French nationality.

Founder and Board Chairman of Great Ethiopian Run athlete Haile Gebreselassie said “Hawassa is developing very fast and trying to catch up with the capital city, Addis Ababa, than any other city in Ethiopia and Great Ethiopian Run will stage its annual half marathon event each year here in Hawassa making it bigger and better”

The half marathon today is the first event of race Great Ethiopian Run was promoting as “Triple Crown” where in three weeks it will stage 3 events. The next two events include the EMA 5 km race next Sunday (30 April) and European Day Children Races planed for exactly two weeks from today at the Ethiopian Youth Sport Academy. Both events will be staged in Addis Ababa.
