March 23, 2017 Starting from April 23, 2017 the Great Ethiopian Run hosts three races on the consecutive three Sundays. These three races are named as the Triple Crown.

2017 CCECC Hawassa Half Marathon which will be hosted on April 23 is the first among the three races. Hawassa’s run will include a 21 km (half marathon) run, a 7 km run as an alternative and a children race as well. A total of 4,000 participants are expected to take part on this event. This race will be a good platform to show that Hawassa is a perfect destination for tourism.


2.    Addis Ababa – around CMC
The Great Ethiopian Run in collaboration with the Ethiopian Medical Association hosts the 2nd edition of the EMA race on April 30, 2017. This run promotes healthy living and works to create awareness on non communicable diseases to the society. The race will have a total of 5,000 participants. The main motto of this year’s run is “family planning for prosperity: Run the talk”. Anyone who is interested to take part in this race can get registered starting from March 29, 2017 at 12 branches of Gishen Pharmacy and the Ethiopian Medical Association office.
3.    Addis Ababa – Ethiopian Youth Sport Academy
To celebrate the EU day the European Union in partnership with the Great Ethiopian run organizes a race called Europe day children races will be hosted on May 7, 2017. This race will be among children whose ages are above 3. This year’s race is different because it introduces a relay race between schools.  A total of 3,000 children will participate on this race.
In the year 2016/17 the Great Ethiopian Run hosted three different races until the end of March. The first two races were held in one day difference, the first one was the children race held on Saturday and the great Ethiopian run on Sunday hosting 40,000 participants. The third one was the women first 5km which was held two weeks ago.
